Warm, compassionate care at Victoria House Residential Home in Belle Isle, Leeds
Victoria House Residential Home

Where every day is lived with warmth, dignity and purpose

Family-run care in the heart of Belle Isle since 1988. A place where residents are known by name, not by number.

Nearly 40 years of caring for Belle Isle families

Victoria House is not a corporate care home. It is a family-run home with deep roots in the Belle Isle community, where most of the senior staff have been here since the doors first opened in 1988. That kind of continuity is rare in care, and you feel it the moment you walk through the door.

With accommodation for up to 43 residents across 35 single rooms and 3 shared rooms — 38 of which have en-suite facilities — every bedroom is tastefully decorated, fully furnished, and equipped with call systems. Residents are always welcome to bring their own furniture and personal belongings to make their room feel like home.

“The staff are good, they are all very approachable.”
— Victoria House resident, CQC inspection

Jackie and the team take pride in knowing every resident personally. From the spacious communal lounges to the conservatory and private garden, Victoria House is designed around the rhythms of daily life — not institutional routine. Visiting professionals including GPs, dentists, and opticians attend on-site, so residents always have access to the care they need.

Support shaped around each individual

Every person who comes to Victoria House has their own story, their own needs, and their own way of living. We offer four types of care, each tailored with warmth and professional expertise.

Residential care

A permanent home with accommodation, meals, and personal care including help with everyday routines such as bathing and dressing. Care staff are available around the clock, so support is always at hand whenever it is needed.

Respite care

Short-term stays to give family carers a well-deserved break, knowing their loved one is in safe and compassionate hands. Whether it is a week or a fortnight, we provide the same quality of care as our permanent residents receive.

Transitional care

A bridge between hospital and home, typically lasting around two weeks. Our team helps residents build strength and confidence after a hospital stay, supporting recovery at a comfortable pace before returning home.

Dementia care

Personalised support developed in partnership with the mental health team, focusing on improving quality of life and preserving dignity. Each care plan begins with a thorough assessment, so we truly understand the person behind the diagnosis.

Days filled with warmth and laughter

Life at Victoria House has a rhythm that feels more like a family household than an institution. Many residents tell us they have more of a social life here than they had before moving in — and that is exactly how it should be.

Our qualified, experienced chefs prepare traditional homemade meals with rotating weekly menus and multiple choices at every sitting. Whether it is breakfast, lunch, tea, or supper, there is always something delicious. We accommodate all dietary needs, from soft and fork-mashable to fortified and blended diets, and residents can dine in the communal areas or the comfort of their own room.

The on-site bar is a favourite gathering spot, and our library offers a quieter retreat. Regular hairdressing and chiropody services mean residents can look and feel their best without leaving the building. For those who wish, we support attendance at local church services, and Holy Communion is available on request.

From public house to family home

The story of Victoria House begins with the Belle Isle Public House, a well-known local landmark that served the community for decades. In 1988, the building was thoughtfully converted into a residential care home by Inniscastle Care Limited, beginning a new chapter of service to the people of Belle Isle.

What makes Victoria House genuinely special is the people. Most of the senior staff have been here since opening day — nearly four decades of continuity, experience, and deep knowledge of what good care looks like. Every member of the team is selected not just for professional skills, but for a genuine interest in the welfare of older people. Staff are supported with NVQ qualifications and ongoing training through partnerships with local educational institutions.

As a proud member of the Leeds Care Association and affiliated with the National Care Homes Association, Victoria House holds itself to the highest standards while remaining, at heart, a family home with a public house soul.
